Welcome from your

FUN FIT FLEX Event Manager

Thank you for signing up to walk and fundraise with The Myositis Association! My name is Shevelle Montgomery, and I am your national FUN FIT FLEX Fundraising and Development Manager. This is my second-year hosting FUN FIT FLEX, and I am so excited to work with each of you and your fundraising teams!

As your local Manager, I am here to serve as a resource for you and your team and to help you achieve your goals. My job is to partner with you and your team to come up with a fun and attainable plan toward fundraising victory!

That can mean a lot of different things - from helping you personalize your FUN FIT FLEX fundraising page, to assisting you with fundraising, or advertising your team’s activities on our social media platforms. I believe that this process should be fun, interactive, and rewarding and my goal is to help you to see it that way too! Building awareness is certainly critical to our mission, but fundraising is what is going to lead to a CURE. Thank you again for joining us on this journey. I am thrilled to officially kickoff FUN FIT FLEX with you and make 2022 a year for cures.  


Team Building 101


  1. Recruit friends, family and coworkers to join your Fun Fit Flex team. Ensure each of your team members register online at Remember that all registered participants are encouraged to fundraise.

  2. Set an overall team fundraising goal and encourage your team members to set individual goals. Keep your team updated on the overall progress.

  3. For company or organization teams, plan an internal kickoff party. A TMA staff member can come present and help you recruit more walkers and give fundraising tips.

  4. Encourage team members to take advantage of their online personal fundraising pages on the event site. The average online gift is 40% higher than cash or check donations!

  5. Have fun and build team camaraderie! In addition to online fundraising and letter writing, plan some team fundraising events like car washes, parties, or raffles to put the FUN in fundraising!

  6. Collect your team members’ donations and turn in to TMA by mail or on the day of the event. Donations can also be made online at

  7. Celebrate with your team members at the event. You have helped us BE HEARD in the fight against digestive diseases.

  8. Keep in touch with your local event chairs and TMA staff.

  9. Continue to fundraise and spread awareness year-round.


Ways to Fundraise

Online Fundraising: When you register for Fun Fit Flex, a fundraising portal was created just for you. It’s an easy and proven way to raise funds! You can customize your page with your own personal story, message, and photos. Share your fundraising page link with your network and then watch as each donation brings you closer to your goal.

Letter Writing Campaigns: In addition to emails, sending personal letters is a great way to invite your friends, family, coworkers, or business contacts to donate to The Myositis Association. Be sure to include the link to your personal fundraising page for anyone who would like to donate online with a credit card and provide a mailing address for those who prefer to send a check. If you need letter samples, please contact The Myositis Association.

Team Fundraising Events: As a team captain or an individual walker, there are endless opportunities to turn your resources, contacts, skills, and interests into a way to earn big bucks for research, education, and support! In addition to raising more money, creative fundraising ideas like these can also build team spirit.

Matching Gifts

Remind your team members and donors to submit matching gift forms for their companies. This is a fast and easy way to double your fundraising dollars!

Competition and Incentives: Get departments or groups within your company or team to compete with one another. Report progress frequently to create a competitive environment and offer prizes for the top fundraising individuals and teams. Time-off or lunch with the boss are great incentives within a company.

Social Media Outreach: Take advantage of the great network you have at your fingertips with social media tools. Tell your story and increase awareness through Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn profile. Be sure to include the link to your fundraising page.

Welcome to FUN FIT FLEX

It’s More Than a Festival, It’s a CELEBRATION! FUN FIT FLEX participants can look forward to a day filled with entertainment, food, healthcare/wellness, and children’s activities. We will use this time to celebrate the hard work and dedication that you and your team members have put in to find a cure for myositis.

Team Up with The Myositis Association

 It only takes one person to inspire hundreds. That is the idea behind participating and/or forming a team to participate in FUN FIT FLEX. It is a way of motivating yourself and inspiring others to get out there and raise much needed funds and awareness for those living with myositis. (Teams have a unique spirit that energizes each team member, creating fun and lasting memories.)


Below, you will find valuable tips and tools to help build your fundraising teams in the most effective ways possible. In addition, you will have the support of TMA staff to help build excitement and help individuals/teams meet their goals.


As a FUN FIT FLEX fundraiser, every person you recruit brings us closer to finding a cure and increasing awareness for myositis.
